About our cause
We are the only dedicated young carers charity in Caithness, currently supporting 115 young people aged between 5 and 18 years old. A young carer is a child that cares for a family member (a sibling, parent or any other family member). A young carer has extra responsibilities and may do daily chores around the house, cook meals or go shopping, they could also pick up and administer medication. It is also possibly that can will support a family member emotionally if their peer suffers from ill mental health. We run group sessions, one to one sessions and respite activities for them, to make sure that they have the chance to get a break from their caring roles, have some time to relax and to just be children.
We offer different services that allow us to reach out and support these young people. We run after school sessions in our main premises in Wick, after school sessions in Thurso, weekly drop in sessions in Wick and Thurso High Schools during lunch times as well as in school support for young carers who live more rural areas of the county and can’t attend after school sessions.
During these sessions we ensure that we are providing all the support and help that the young carers need. Our main aims of the charity are:
*To promote the benefit of young carers of Caithness and its environs and to provide recreational facilities, or organise recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended.
*To build a network of support for young carers in Caithness by awareness of existence of young carers and their needs.
*To promote the wellbeing of young carers by providing opportunities to raise confidence, self-esteem and to help identify the value of their role.
*To work with statutory and voluntary agencies to support and encourage young carer’s educational achievements and to help them access normal childhood activities.
*To provide opportunities for respite from their caring role.
We need your help so we can continue to offer the help and support that these young people need.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
